The Choice
The class was asked to discuss the meaning of the short story. Johnny raised his hand and said, “I think it’s about a group of friends who get stuck in a snowstorm and have to find a way to survive.” Sarah disagreed, “I think it’s about a family who is struggling to make ends meet and the mother has to make a difficult decision.”
The discussion went on for a while, with different students offering their interpretations of the story. In the end, the teacher asked the class to take a vote on which interpretation they thought was correct. The vote was split evenly between Johnny’s and Sarah’s interpretation.
The discussion had been lively and everyone had seemed to enjoy it. Johnny was glad that he had raised his hand and offered his interpretation of the story. It had been a good discussion.
