Gathering
The sun was setting, and the last rays of light shone through the trees, casting long shadows on the ground. The leaves were starting to turn, and the air was crisp and chilly. It was time to gather the firewood for the winter.
Jane and her father went out into the woods, each with a large basket. They filled their baskets with logs, kindling, and leaves. Jane’s father showed her how to stack the wood so that it would burn evenly. He also told her to be careful of the snakes and spiders that might be hiding in the woodpile.
When they were finished, they carried the baskets back to the house. Jane’s mother was waiting for them, and she helped them unload the wood. Then they all went inside, where it was warm and cozy.
